What is double materiality

Double materiality is the principle, used by the CSRD, that a company must report two kinds of impact: how sustainability issues financially affect the business (financial materiality) and how the business affects the environment and society (impact materiality).

Why it matters: it’s the concept the US formally challenged as excessive when requesting limits on the CSRD, because it expands reporting far beyond what’s financially relevant to an investor.
