What is REDD+

REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) is a category of carbon project that generates credits by preventing deforestation of an area that would otherwise have been cleared. It’s one of the most common types of forest credit in Brazil.

Why it matters: because it relies on a hypothetical baseline (what would have happened “without” the project), REDD+ is also the credit type most often questioned on quality and additionality, and the project’s rating weighs directly on price.
